Artist Statement
My work is an exploration of the inner life we all have but rarely share. I find myself drawn to images of contemplation; whether it is my own web of thoughts embedded in self portraits and images of back roads or that hidden life of others I attempt to capture in the fleeting seconds of the shutter. I am constantly searching for images to put a face to my thoughts. Photography is my connection with the outside world, a way to process my life experiences and share a piece. Letters and words are too harsh for me, too well defined. Images remain open, a place where my inner life and another’s can find a place to meet. Two fully separate spaces allowed a moment together.
Biography
I grew up in a variety of places (Dallas TX, St. Louis MO, Oakland, CA) before ending up in Los Angeles to attend Occidental College. I graduated with a BA in Art/Art History with an emphasis in Film and a minor in Biology. I took photography classes in high school where I learned basic shooting, developing and printing methods. Beyond these basics I have taught myself by shooting since I received my first camera from my mother as a gift for my 12th birthday.
My work has received Honorable Mentions from the International Photography Awards 2004 – 2007 and published in B&W Magazine’s 2005 Annual Single Image Contest with a Merit Award. My work has been featured in solo and group shows in Los Angeles, CA and Lansing, MI, and is held in private collections. I work on and off in the entertainment industry to pay the bills while I continue to explore with my cameras in hand.
